Virus Infects USC Campus
It’s been a tough week for students who are conflicted with the seemingly easy question of “Should I go to class or not?” Unfortunately the campus of University of Southern California, or USC, has been hit with a “highly contagious gastrointestinal virus,” according to Michael Jackson, Vice President of Student Affairs. In a mass email sent out to students and faculty this past weekend, Jackson warned students that may have the virus to “not socialize or go to class” in order to reduce the risk of infecting other students.
One student falling ill to the short-living virus, Robbie Curl, freshman at USC, said the symptoms are no worse than ”vomiting, stomach cramping, and nausea.” But he, along with many other USC students, including his roommate, ”have a four or five day weekend” to prevent this virus from infecting more than the approximated 275 that currently have it.
Jackson states that the virus is short-lived, but spreads widely and without discrimination. All residential and cafeterias have been equipped with antibacterial gel as well as hand sanitizing wipes, some even have masks and gloves.

A 27 year old man named Anthony Hislar has had his license suspended, charged with attempted murder, committed home-invasion robberies, and many other crimes in a 5 day span, culminating last week with a final arrest by LAPD at the most ironic of places: Disneyland.
Hislar had been charged with multiple times before, including a high speed chase three years ago, and a Bank of America robbery four years before that, in 2001.

Slaughter-Sentenced
Working in a slaughterhouse can get you hard time. Well, if your caught red-handed on undercover video abusing sick and injured cows. Consequently leading up to the largest beef recall in U.S. history. Daniel Ugarte Navarro was sentenced to two felony counts of animal cruelty and two misdemeanor counts of cruelty to downed animals.
The video was shot by the Humane Society and led to a federal investigation and the recall of 143 million pounds of beef in February. It was pretty gruesome. Workers were seen dragging sick cows with metal chains and forklifts, shocking them with electric prods and shooting streams of water in their noses and faces. Navarro claimed he was overcharged by prosecutors and was just following orders. Was he a scapegoat? Discuss.

The head of the FDIC says Washington Mutual customers will be fine despite the bank’s failure yesterday. The federal government sized WaMu on Thursday and sold its assets for $1.9 billion to JPMorgan Chase. WaMu is the largest bank to fail in U.S. History.
KNBC.com reports that FDIC Chairman Sheila Blair is reassuring customers that everything will be ”business as usual” for bank customers and that services will not be disrupted.
Last March, JPMorgan Chase bought Bear Stearns, making WaMu the second financial institution the company has taken over in six months.
