MAY DAY

01May08

12:17 p.m.

The impact of May Day is not just being felt downtown. More than 25,000 longshore men at the Ports of Long Beach and L.A. walked off the job in solidarity with May Day and labor rights.

Check out the Long Beach Press Telegram article about the walkout.

12:02 p.m.

More people are starting to gather getting ready to march. Less than an hour away and protesters are gathering with flags and banners. Protesters are continuing to emphasize that this march is reflective of the American Dream that includes eduction and fair workers rights as well as immigrant rights.

10:32 a.m.

Ten of thousands of marchers are gathering and making their way through dowtown Los Angeles.  Authorities are prepared for any out of control demonstrators, but are hoping that today’s event is a “non-event” and is not a replay of the 2006 protests.

The protesters began gathering at 11 a.m. at three different locations and they will meet at Broadway and Fifth Street around 1p.m. The march will continue up Broadway where they will rally at Broadway and First Street  around 4p.m.

A second rally will be held a MacArthur Park at 4 p.m.

Protesters are hoping that by marching the groups will bring attention to the working conditions of immigrants. As well as advocate for immigration reform.

We will keep you updated as the protests get underway.
