McCain “optimistic” about bailout negotiations in Congress, is scheduled to debate Obama tonight at the University of Mississippi. McCain’s participation reverses his earlier position to delay the event.

McCain gambled with that decision. Some say strategically timed to appear above politics and as a leader on an issue that had overshadowed the presidential campaign. Obama held steadfast and questioned why McCain couldn’t mulit-task both the debate and his involvement in the bailout negotiations. What do you think of McCain’s re-decision? Discuss.

The state of California is quickly running out of cash and Governor Schwartzenegger has made an executive decision to cut 22,000 part-time and temporary state positions. He also ordered that state workers receive the federal minimum wage of $6.55 instead of the California minimum wage.

Schwartzenegger apologized to state workers and said he had no choice. “Today I am exercising my executive authority to avoid a full-blown crisis and keep our state moving forward,” Schwarzenegger said. “This is not an action I take lightly.” However, workers will be reimbursed once a new budget is approved.
